Veteran vehicle-engineer and all-round propellerhead Cubey Terra recently hacked and slogged his way through fields of ban-lines and ejection-scripts to successfully complete what has become the first circumnavigation of the entire Second Life map.
The 8-hour journey - on foot - featured a motley crew of friends, well-wishers and nigglers, and was almost cut short by a near-fatal encounter with public transport.
Future excusions are expected to feature an increasingly-popular form of spork-back riding.
Cubey 's account of the finger-blistering ordeal can be found at his website (www.cubeyterra.com) and the SL forums thread on the subject.
Yes I saw this event the other day, and it was only scheduled for an hour - but I knew it would be much longer. It looked like a lot of fun, because Cubey is a fun guy

This extended event, to me, really represented the community spirit of SL. A crazy idea executed with a diverse group of avatars coming together. Oh, and if that sounds kinda serious, of course it wasn't really. 'Twas fun. :-)

Ooh, now THIS is useful. I'm not a SL player but hope to be one day and I'm always fascinated by what these people get up to. I always wanted to circumnavigate the Continent when I got to SL at last, but I never thought anyone would not oly do that but actually compile a map from it. This means that when I finally get into SL, I'll be able to wander all around the world with the added bonus of a map in case I get lost.
It makes it all so much more real. A dedicated effort and true team spirit. Well done, Cubey and others.......and who knows? Since we share the ambition, maybe I'll bump into you lot trekking not too far in the future.

The map is a live map generated by SL in real-time. It also shows resident traffic, events, telehubs, and objects for sale. Cubey's probably got yet another map in the old grey matter.
Look forward to seeing you in SL. Don't dawdle. 7 day free trial. Cheapest account type is just one-time charge of US$9.95
