Stop back later, the metaverse is full
The mojo wire sputtered to life minutes ago in the Herald offices with news that Linden Lab marks an historic high number of registered accounts today, passing the 1 million alt account milestone sometime around 9:30 AM. Congratulations! Now, what is the next milestone?
update: Pathfinder Linden helped settle the office pool by answering the Herald's query with an exact time: October 18, 2006 at precisely 8:05:45 AM (Second Life Time). Pay up, Walker! -Pixeleen
How about 25k, 50k, 75k and then 100k concurrent residents? Or $1MUS in daily transactions?
I think a lot of people will be impressed with more than 12k concurrent residents.

As always it is really hard to know what, if anything this means, given that access to SL is free. But it is worth noting that this comes a year before Philip predicted it would, as the Herald exclusively reported in June of 2004:

At the time people thought a million users by 2007 was out of reach, and obviously even the Lindens didn't completely believe it, because now they find themselves *totally* unprepared for the onslaught of new users.
