by Pat the Rat
Walker Spaight and Destroy Television? You heard it here first, boys and girls. Pat the Rat was lurking in the cathedral in the Big Easy, expiating some sins -- and you know Pat has a lot of sins to atone for -- when who should wander in but that former member of the flock, the lifelogging lady of Second Life, Destroy Television, arm in arm with the virtual world's third-hardest-working journalist, Walker Spaight (third-hardest-working after Pix and Uri, of course; oh how Pat loves to bite the hand). Thought I, What could they be up to?
Destroy, as we know, is in the middle of a 10-day engagement in New York, where SnoopyBROWN Zamboni and Christian Prior have her slaving away in an art gallery. Meanwhile in Second Life, she's been getting around, as they say. Her Flickr stream provides plenty of damning evidence of her recent travels.
In among those pics, in fact, is one in particular, reproduced above, that seems to tell an intriguing story. For there is a "lovestruck" Walker Spaight, on bended knee, apparently proffering a pricey diamond flower ring to the object of his affections, Destroy Television. Her reaction? "Yes yes and infinity yes!!!!!"
Pat wasn't close enough to overhear the entire conversation (Sister is a very strict disciplinarian, when she puts her mind to it), but it certainly looks like Walker and Destroy are getting ready to tie the knot. Does Walker not know about Destroy's on-again off-again romance wiht Herald Editrix Pixeleen Mistral? And note Destroy's L$ balance. Maybe he just wants to take her away from all this and give her a better life.
Are wedding bells on the editorial calendar for Walker and Destroy? Pat hasn't been able to confirm or deny yet, but the Herald will certainly keep you informed. Will it be the wedding of the season, or will they simply elope? We've heard of wives wearing the pants, but will this one keep the mistress as well? And does the bride really think she's going to get away with wearing white? So many questions! And Sister is calling. Ta ta!
Pix will be hearbroken.

e-weddings are clearly serious business and warrant much attention.

what in the name of hell is this shit? You call this journalism? I have never read such shit ever before in my life. Even Foax news can do better than this, and they're already terrible.
-"Get a JOB."
I think you should heed this man's words and go work at some McDonalds down the street.

How to package this so that the simple minded will grasp the signficance of this event -- quite possibly the social event of the millenium. We are talking about nuptials for the greatest journalist of a generation to the greatest sex symbol of the age. Imagine, if you would, that Thomas Wolfe married Lindsey Lohan and that Lindsey Lohan life blogged the rest of their lives of wedded bliss while Thomas Wolfe provided the new journalism insight into their unholy matrimony. Well, once you have wrapped you mind around that then you are only a quarter of the way to understanding just how big this is.
This makes the Ted and Jane wedding look like a paltry Vegas hookup of two nobodies from Iowa. I just doesn't get any bigger than this.

"This makes the Ted and Jane wedding look like a paltry Vegas hookup of two nobodies from Iowa. I just doesn't get any bigger than this."
Oh Wow Uri! I must admit I never really understood the significance of the scoop until you enlightened me. I don’t know who this Wolfe fellow is? Is he like Jimmy Olson from Superman? I have always thought he is soooo cute.
I do know who Lindsey Logan is. She has class. What other celebrity can get arrested for DUI AND cocaine possession and, not insult, Blacks, Jews, Gays, or some other minority in the process?
Do you think there will be a raffle for tickets to the wedding? I would just love to attend. Or, maybe I could send my alt to sit, and sit, and sit until the ticket booth opens. Maybe she can get me a few Lindens in the process?

If you jump straight to the walkerspaight tag of her Flickr lifelog you can see the proposal and the courting process: http://www.flickr.com/photos/destroytv/tags/walkerspaight . Page back to see the conversation in the church, the go-kart racing, the golfing, the slide from flirtation to true love. If you go past that you get to the Herald's 3rd anniversary party and, appropriately, the Yahoo time capsule.
Congratulations to Walker and Destroy! In Teh Future everyone will be their own time capsule, and I'm glad we got to keep these precious memories today.
PS You can follow Pixleen's latest interactions with Destroy here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/destroytv/tags/pixeleenmistral . Drama? We just. Don't. Know. What will happen.
I'm headed back to the gallery. Wedding details soon...

Jen, you are right that this is going to be a tough ticket to score. Maybe the Herald will give one away to the sixty-ninth caller. I got mine via the concierge desk on the Herald yacht.

So...who was driving Miss D?

That's what I was wondering as well, Prok.

I call dibs on book and movie rights when one of them goes Robert Blake.

Prok and nimrod, there were a bunch of us hive-minding at the gallery with Annie at the helm during the date and proposal.
Ethan, I look forward to the day that an avatar's life is optioned, for sure.
I love this picture of Walker on his knee where you can also see he was holding his golf club when he proposed: http://flickr.com/photos/destroytv/516901706 . A true romantic until the end. Hole-in-one of the heart! :p

JERRY!!! *smoosh*
Uri, I find this TOO funny, although Walker totally grabbed my boob a few weeks ago. He claimed he was reaching for a stapler, but I KNOW he's lying. Who doesn't want a piece of the SL Paris Hilton? Hawt.

"Who doesn't want a piece of the SL Paris Hilton? Hawt."
Ahh good, I've planted Paris into your head. Now you're proven to be an idiot as much she is. ;)
Clearly it won't take long till some fellas from PN raids the wedding.
Spamming with their general manner of their banner.
Wait.. wtf, get a job.

Encouragment? On my internets?

Encouragment...
A Warnining...
Prediction...
Mocking...
Stating out the obvious...
Saying "I told ya so"...
...whatever, just make up your mind how you think I'm trying to do, but internet isn't yours alone.

Yes, that picture of Walker on bended knee wielding the golf club has to be one of the special SL moments out there, for sure, goes in the Herald's Hall of Fame pictures, no question. Right up there with the one where I'm loving up Pathfinder at the always black party.

Oh, but the internets belong to Nacon... I'll blame him the next time the t00bs are clogged.

Sorry I had to miss the wedding, I was dealing with Canadian immigration at the blessed moment. So where are the pics, dammit!

here are Destroy's shots from yesterday:
http://flickr.com/photos/destroytv/sets/72157600281049190/
but there are 3,000 of those.
It's slightly easier to follow if you browse through these shots of the happy couple together:

I know Prok is going to have a Herald piece on the event (because I threatened to dock his pay if he didn't cover it). We had hoped that Pixeleen would show up -- in fact, we had hoped that Pixeleen would be maid of honor -- but alas, it was not to be. There was a pretty good cast of characters, though. Lordfly comported himself fairly well as best man, despite his drunkenness. The location was announced (and, in fact, chosen) at the last minute, so it all felt a bit like a celebrity wedding on a secret island somewhere. About 30 avatars showed up, and about 20 watched on Destroy's Web site.
More when we get back from our honeymoon.

Tao Takashi made a very pretty machinima of the wedding with the new sky effects: http://taotakashi.wordpress.com/2007/05/29/windlight-and-the-wedding-of-destroy-television-and-walker-spaight .
Walker and Destroy, today is the first day of the rest of your lives.

It belongs to the people, idiot. Although I'd blame on your mother clogging up the internet from time to time. ;)
