She called and they all followed. Loglady Loon is one of the most
banned non-griefing avatars in SecondLife. She is highly disputed, either
loved or hated and the creative mastermind behind Freak Show. The first
exhibition of Freak Show was called Beauty vs. Paranoia and all SL artists were
invited to participate by simply handing in a full perm picture representing
their vision of a freak.
In a virtual world where everyone is beautiful, well-built and dressed to kill, this was quite a task. The show was a success and encouraged her to start a new project called Pornosophy – SL’s first explicit porn show, uncensored and without any limitations.
More than 60 artists heeded her call and handed in their interpretation of porn. No limits… one would think this might be a dangerous thing. Rape, child porn, there’s a lot of sensitive subjects you rather don’t want to see digitalized but it wouldn’t be the Loglady if she had imposed any censorship on her artists. And no, there was no child porn, we might be digital imagery pervs but we have well-functioning hearts and minds.
The weeks after the invitation were like the summer of 69: posemakers had the time of their life selling dirty poses and it was completely normal to read conversations like this:
Girl 1: Can I borrow your cock? Is it mod and trans?
Girl 2: It is mod but I bought a tattoo for it so it’s no longer trans.
Girl 1: Alright, then I’ll quickly run and buy my own.
Girl 2: Sure, go to … they have the best textures and HUDs.
Yes, girls became experts in cock shopping (who needs a man for that job?), people shared poses and prop and quickly jumped in to help a fellow artist to edit some threesome poseballs. It was a weird time, there was sex in the pixel air.
The preparations for the show proceeded and it had everything a good exhibition needs: sponsorship drama, interviews, advertising and teasers on various Flickr streams. The list of participants grew every day. Some names were a must on the list, others were a surprise. Who would have thought that the girl with the dreamy portraits would make a doggy style picture in the Crack Den?
The show opened with a big bang. The sim crashed three times, there was latex, leashes, open pants and lots of dirty talk. The guest list was like the who is who of Flickr artists, the exhibition was a full success. The next two weeks passed by quickly. Another party, a life-sex performance on voice and Loglady declared the show over. The money collected in those two weeks went to the victims of the devastating earthquake in Italy.
When the DJ played the last tune and everyone uploaded their
pictures on their streams, our radars showed what no one would have expected:
‘Philip Linden 72 m away’.
He was
there, quietly walked from one tent to the next, looking at the pictures and
congratulating Loglady on the success of the show. He thanked her for her
courage and efforts to set up an explicit porn show, to fight censorship and to
take a stand in times when the Lab was selling out to their investors.
A sterile and family-friendly SecondLife is surely not what Philip had in mind when he said ‘Your world. Your imagination’. But he is a king without a throne and so all he could do was express his support of SL’s anti-censorship movement by showing up himself and congratulating everyone on their success.
Thank you Philip for being there, thank you Loglady for organizing this event, thank you fellow Pornosophy artists for the fun and most of all thank you Linden Lab for your adult-content restrictions which make us even more creative and stubborn in our attempts to create OUR world after OUR imagination!
This story could be totally apocryphyal and fake -- but let's take it at face value as indicative of the original Linden cult ideology.
Hey, Philip should come 72 meters away from the forums and blogs and JIRAs when some of us our censored by his fellow technocommies, then I might believe that Philip's heart is all about fighting censorship.
But it's not. It's all about promoting fuck-you hedonism under the guise of freedom as part of the general "no business but my business" ethos of these freaks.
Philip is someone who could blink and tell me how he didn't see how he could pardon the politically permabanned like me on the anniversary dates (like a president of a totalitarian country might do) because then that would imply that that they weren't right in banning someone.
And Philip is someone who could blink at me when I resurfaced after being booted and temp-banned from a town hall meeting and tell me that was necessary because otherwise it would be like "kindergarten" because...I typed one single line that questioned Cory Linden's claim that they ran out of 512 first land for newbies because they ran out of servers -- when it was clear they had plenty of servers to key up as more lucrative private islands, and just didn't feel like giving away free servers anymore (in which case...they could have said so, and acknowledged that their socialist program had to end, rather than pretending it was about server shortage -- and not long after that, they ended the first land 512 program anyway).
Meanwhile, a b-tard/PN/Woodbury goon who made a spoof of me at that town hall with a very similar name was ranting and raging in the audience chat of this same townhall meeting, and no one booted him -- despite Torley Linden's claim that I was booted because I chatted out of turn (under the old draconian townhall regulations, no one could chat in backchat while a Linden was speaking).
So please, don't get confused in your tiny minds about the Lindens -- and of them -- being in any way about fighting censorship, and fighting for freedom for all to speak or express their art or ideas as they wish, without fear or favour.
It never was about that. It's about maximizing the freedom to express *their technocommunist ideology* not a plurality of ideologies, and that includes a notion of managing the public under authoritarian rule by letting them indulge in sexual extremism while curbing any political expression that would threaten their power. If they now backtracked on that concept of rule, used by communists and fascists over the ages, it was merely to manage it *better* with a geographical metaphor and sense of place in Zindra.

@Prok
TL;DR
Make your point in half the words and go ahead and keep some of your colorful metaphors intact - whatever it's cool - and maybe more of us will read.
Sometimes less is more.
Make sense?

That rant, coming from Prok, one of the most totalitarian "my way or get the fuck out" members of SL, that's pretty funny.
Damn those hedonists! Those freaks! That freedom! Oh, how you must HATE it!
Prok, go feed your cats. Nobody cares.

Phillip will be upset when he finds out a Grid Monkey was using his account. :)
I seriously doubt this happened. Were it true, Phillip should be showing up to give me a medal for all I've done for the BDSM community any min now. NOT

Second Life is one big festering fetted ball of crap that needs shoved back up Phillip Lindens ass, and then cram the NAB in behind it just to make sure nothing ever comes out again :)
Posted by: dieNABdie | June 30, 2009 at 12:56 PM
Um. This was not a "porn" show. It was an art exhibit, built around the theme of pornography. That's a very different thing. While I wouldn't be looking for too many Lindens at the hottest strip clubs on Zindra, there is absolutely no reason why Phillip shouldn't have gone to THIS. The art world in RL is well past the need to insert strategically-placed fig leaves on nudes; why should we be surprised that art in SL is similarly explicit?
PS. Does anyone actually UNDERSTAND Prok? I mean, not merely his/her content (which is usually incoherent enough), but the tortured syntax and barely grammatical phrasings? I am going to practice being a poor enough writer to ensure that I, too, can become famous in SL!

I wonder when it was that weird, freakish, and disgusting became "Art" -- replacing that which gives us a deeper understanding and appreciation of the normal human condition. To paraphrase Georgia O'Keefe "If that's art, I just sh#t a masterpiece!"

After looking into it, it does indeed seem to be an actual string of events. Quite Amazing.:)

Ban all sex from SL and it'll be a better place.

re

??
I was under the impression that it had been previously established that there is no sex in SL, only manipulation of pixels
if manipulation of pixels is banned there would not be much left in sL

Pornosophy was more than just a "porn" exibition, was an SL art exibition that we of http://www.slnn.it were proud to sponsor. I think Loglady is an interesting and provocative artist "out from the mainstream". She has jet started to project a new exibition, "GODart" and I think it will be interesting as Freak Show and Pornosophy were. Fingers crossing we will see more "provocative" exibitions but definetly not only porno ones. Porno, I think, was a way, not a goal for Loglady and her artist...
Just to let everybody knows something more about:
