Motorsports for the family
by Alessandra Narayan, sports desk
Broken hands and fingers explain zFaDarkness Yue’s obvious preference for voice over textchat. Mr. Yue is a retired pilot who now dedicates his time on Second Life building tracks and racing fast cars - best referred to as karts and drags - all in the name of family motorsport, as he refuses F1 races or other major, industrialized kind of races. The owner of nine tracks, Mr. Yue now thinks of starting a championship over the long term as he admits the possibility of a real life sponsor with negotiations currently underway.
What drove me to interview zFaDarkness Yue? Well, it’s quite simple. Taking a look at Second Life’s classifieds search engine for special attractions, guess which I found most interesting?
Alessandra Narayan (AN) - This is the first kart track in SL ever?
zFaDarkness Yue (ZY) – No. There are others. This is the first for C&D. We are the first with different classes I think. Not positive on that though. We have from entry level to pro level. That way, anyone can race them and not just the good drivers have a chance to win races. All have same chance to be competitive. All the karts are the same weight and scripting.
AN – What's C&D? How did this all started?
ZY – It’s a company me and my partner started over two and half years ago. It used to mean Cherelle and Darkness but now it stands for Cars & Dragracing. I started building and scripting in a sandbox. Then, it evolved into the front yard of our first property and has become what you see now.
AN – This is really big...
ZY – It has taken many, many hours of development work to get to this point, over 2 years. This is C&D's first full sim attempt at a racing venue. So far we have done very well. I do fine with my car sales and group support. The sim was paid by me and some group members.
AN – All in the name of passion for karts, right?
ZY – Racing in gen it started with the drag racing and is evolving into other competitive motorsports. The success of the track came from my car builds and a passion for racing.
AN – Will you be having what other sports besides karts in this space?
ZY – Yes. I will be expanding into pocket bikes, drag boats and possibly F1 boats.
AN – No F1 cars?
ZY – No Less White has that market wrapped up and don’t want to get into that. I’m mainly focusing on family type events. Karts, drags, stuff like that.
AN – How many tracks you own?
ZY - I currently have 9 tracks. Some are private run ones. I started out with using others racing system and they never seem to work like real life ones so I developed and scripted my own. Many people have bought my racing system and are now part of the racing enterprises I’m working on.
AN – And sponsors? Any luck?
ZY – I’m actively working on a contract with a real life racing organization to bring them into SL.
AN – What about a championship?
ZY – Yes, that will come about. But the main focus now is to get it all promoted along with my current racing events. We run a heck of a drag show. We run the most real drags in all of SL. My timing system is as close to real life drag tree you can possibly get in SL, given the issues with lag, etc. We are working on a weekly magazine for the races as well with photos, driver’s interviews, racing results, etc. It will be C&D drag times.
This is officially the worst Post 6 Grrrl article I've ever read.
Still, might be fun to have a go at the racing! 8D

How do the karts drive?
I have yet to find any car, kart etc that actually drives well in SL.
Obviously being limited to mouse or keys is one problem. But most drive like Mario Kart in my opinion.
Planes and boats (powered and sailboats) have some products with very good behaviour, but cars in general in SL are terrible.
I confess I have not driven a vehicle from zFaDarkness.
Does anyone know any good driving physics out there?

To my knowledge "dark" didnt script any of those tracks. I know the guy who did, and well lets say it wasnt dark. I have also heard some things about investors that I dont think is too flattering. Again, I am not sure for certain, but you know...it pays to be cautious.

Hi i just seen this page and there are some mis quotes on the page, first off im retired bike racer dont know wher the pilot thing came in at, and i see the negitave comments posted here by genralprick baxton, he is a former track worker that got fired from my company for stealing. as for laz scripting it . he helped me some yes but laz had no clue how a racing system operates or know anything about racing i had to hold his hand thru the whole process, as for Quark Melodys comment every one has ther opinion so i like to see it, you my dear have quite a temper and flame like your good friend genrialPrick has done as well. the over all reception of my tracks and racing system have been very well recived and there will allways be some that have negitave comments. thats just part of the busness. and thats aceptable only 2 bad comments is like not even .1% in the big picture, anyway thank you for writing this up i think you did a fine job. my track system and cars can be found on xstreets :) happy SL racing
